Bhagwant Mann Accuses BJP Over Blasts, Party Warns of Legal Move to Remove CM

Political tensions escalated in Punjab after explosions in Jalandhar and Amritsar triggered a sharp exchange between the AAP government, BJP, and SAD over security concerns and allegations of political conspiracy ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Punjab, May 07 : Punjab witnessed a fresh political confrontation after consecutive blast incidents in Jalandhar and Amritsar sparked a heated debate over the state’s law and order situation. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party government and opposition parties exchanged sharp accusations, further intensifying the political atmosphere in the state.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann alleged that the BJP was attempting to create unrest in Punjab in a manner similar to West Bengal to gain political advantage in the 2027 Assembly elections. Mann claimed that divisive tactics and incidents aimed at disturbing communal harmony were being used for electoral gains.
His remarks triggered a strong response from the BJP leadership. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra criticised the chief minister’s comments, calling them irresponsible and insensitive. Patra pointed out that Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav had indicated the possible involvement of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI in attempts to disrupt peace around the anniversary of Operation Sindoor.
The BJP accused the chief minister of politicising a serious security issue instead of focusing on maintaining stability in the border state. Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar warned that the party was considering all legal and constitutional measures against Mann over his statements, stating that such remarks could damage public confidence and create unnecessary tension.
Meanwhile, Sukhbir Singh Badal of the Shiromani Akali Dal also attacked the AAP government, demanding the resignation of the chief minister. Badal highlighted that Punjab had witnessed three blast-related incidents within ten days, raising concerns about the deteriorating security environment in the state.
The political controversy has once again shifted attention to Punjab’s security preparedness and the growing rivalry among major political parties ahead of future electoral battles. Security agencies continue to investigate the recent explosions while political leaders trade allegations over responsibility and intent.
