Jammu. 25.08.21: All India Confederation of SC ST OBC Organisations held a press conference today at their office at Resham Ghar Colony Jammu. The agenda of the conference was to discuss the latest notice to address the shortage of engineers in the Rural Development Department by employing retired Junior, Assistant or Assistant Executive Engineers on a contractual basis.
RK Kalsotra, State President Confederation, who was flanked by unemployed engineers, Layaqat Hussain Ch, Rajat, Dheeraj, said that there are more than 70000 educated unemployed engineers in the UT. They either hold diplomas or degrees. Kalsotra further said previously unemployed engineers are given an opportunity under self-help group to work as contractors and many having to raise loans from the banks were working but at the change of Govt that decision has also been changed and all those engineers who were working as contractors under Self Help Groups are again becoming jobless and under banks loans which they have taken to run self-help groups.
Engineers today are in a state of distress with no employment opportunities. In such a condition, the government aims to recruit retired engineers to fill the lacuna in Panchayat, Rural Development Department on a contractual basis. This is gross injustice towards the unemployed engineers.
Kalsotra demanded revision in the decision of the administration and demanded employment avenues for educated unemployed engineers with immediate effect.
