12-06-2023 : Former Minister Taj Mohiuddin, along with two others, has been accused of cheating and has been booked by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The FIR, registered under Sections 420 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), alleges that Taj Mohiuddin, Vijay Kumar (a property dealer), and Raj Kumar Gupta defrauded an individual by promising him possession of a piece of land in village Nandani, Jammu.
The complainant stated that Vijay Kumar enticed him with an offer to purchase six shops on land falling under Khasra number 109 in village Nandani. The complainant was assured that there were no legal issues or defects with the property and subsequently made the full payment. However, he alleges that he was never given possession of the land.
According to the police spokesperson, the complainant made an initial cash payment to Vijay Kumar, while the remaining amount was paid through cheques to Raj Kumar Gupta. These cheques were allegedly encashed into the account of former Minister Taj Mohiuddin.
Feeling deceived and that his money had been misappropriated, the complainant lodged a written complaint with the Nowabad Police Station. Inspector Surinder Raina, the SHO of Nowabad Police Station, confirmed the booking of the three individuals and stated that further investigations are ongoing.
Taj Mohiuddin, when contacted, claimed that he had indeed sold the land and received full payment from the complainant. He denied denying the complainant possession of the land and stated that all the necessary legal documents for the transfer of ownership were prepared. Taj Mohiuddin invited the complainant to come and take possession of the land, asserting his commitment to fulfilling the agreement.
Furthermore, Taj Mohiuddin alleged that the complainant initially showed interest in the property but later changed his mind, resorting to tricks to defame him. It is worth noting that Taj Mohiuddin has previously served as a Minister in both the PDP-Congress and NC-Congress Governments. In 2020, he faced legal trouble when he was booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in the illegal regularization of encroached Forest land under the Roshni Act.
