Srinagar, 12-01-2024: On Friday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Kashmir, V K Birdi, declared the unwavering commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to eradicate the threat of narco-terrorism, emphasizing that such cases are accorded top priority in their pursuit. During a visit to a drug de-addiction center in Baramulla, Birdi urged the public to actively support the police in the ongoing battle against drug abuse.
Addressing reporters, IGP Birdi highlighted the police force’s dedication to addressing narco-terrorism, stating that they have given precedence to cases related to it. Notably, the police have taken action against drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Commending the efforts of Baramulla police in taking decisive actions against drug peddlers, IGP Birdi acknowledged the progress made but emphasized the need for further and stringent measures to completely eliminate the drug menace from society.
Expressing the view that societal intervention is imperative even before legal measures can be implemented, Birdi appealed to the public to report any individuals engaging in such illicit activities. He stressed the necessity for the cooperation of society to root out the pervasive menace of drugs.
