India, June 26 : India and the United States have taken another significant step towards strengthening their strategic technology partnership by holding a high-level closed door roundtable focused on artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor manufacturing and critical minerals. The meeting brought together senior government representatives and leading industry executives from both countries to explore new avenues of collaboration in emerging technologies and secure supply chains.
The discussions reflected the growing importance both nations place on technological cooperation as they seek to build resilient global value chains and accelerate innovation in sectors that are increasingly shaping economic growth and national security.
Sharing details of the engagement on social media platform X, the Indian Embassy in the United States described the meeting as an important initiative aimed at reinforcing cooperation in advanced technologies. The embassy underlined the significance of joint efforts in securing the future of AI and strengthening the ecosystem supporting critical technologies.
The roundtable was attended by India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S. Krishnan and US Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce Bill Guidera. Senior representatives from Indian and American companies working in artificial intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing and critical minerals also participated in the discussions.
The meeting additionally brought together senior officials from both governments, including Ministry of External Affairs Additional Secretary (Americas) Nagaraj Naidu, US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) President Mukesh Aghi and Deputy Assistant Secretary Christopher Saldana from the US Department of Energy. Their participation highlighted the broad institutional support behind expanding bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors.
According to the Indian Embassy, the primary objective of the roundtable was to identify practical measures that could strengthen the investment climate and promote long-term collaboration across technology-driven industries. Participants exchanged views on ways to reduce barriers affecting investment, encourage greater industry participation and build sustainable demand for next-generation technologies.
Artificial intelligence emerged as one of the central themes during the interaction. Officials and business leaders discussed opportunities for collaboration across the AI ecosystem, including advanced research, frontier technologies and real-world applications capable of supporting economic development, industrial productivity and digital transformation.
Semiconductor cooperation also received considerable attention as India and the United States continue efforts to diversify global chip supply chains. Both countries have been working closely to encourage manufacturing, strengthen research partnerships and reduce vulnerabilities exposed by recent global supply disruptions.
Critical minerals formed another key pillar of the dialogue. These minerals are essential for producing semiconductors, electric vehicles, renewable energy technologies and advanced electronics. Strengthening cooperation in this area is expected to improve supply chain resilience while supporting clean energy transitions and future industrial growth.
The latest engagement builds upon a series of high-level interactions between India and the United States aimed at expanding economic and technological cooperation. Earlier this month, Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra held discussions with senior executives from leading American corporations and technology organisations to promote greater investment and innovation partnerships.
Among those meetings was an interaction with Walmart President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Nicholas. The discussions focused on the retail giant’s growing investments in India, long-term expansion plans and efforts to develop stronger and more resilient supply chains that can support future business growth.
The ambassador also met Ylli Bajraktari, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP), to discuss collaboration in emerging technologies. Their interaction came ahead of Bajraktari’s scheduled participation in the upcoming India-US Forum in New Delhi, where technology cooperation is expected to feature prominently on the agenda.
The steady pace of diplomatic and business engagements reflects the increasing strategic convergence between India and the United States. From semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence to clean energy technologies and critical minerals, both countries are expanding cooperation in areas considered vital for future economic competitiveness and technological leadership.
As global demand for advanced technologies continues to rise, the latest roundtable signals a shared commitment by New Delhi and Washington to deepen innovation partnerships, facilitate greater private-sector participation and create a stronger framework for long-term collaboration in sectors that will define the digital economy of the future.
