J&K officials visits Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project in Gujarat

Senior officials of the J&K government visited the Sabarmati River Front Development Project in Gujarat; Tawi River in Jammu will have Riverfront on the lines of Sabarmati River Front Development SRFD Project.

11-01-2021: A delegation comprising senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir government visited the Sabarmati River Front Development Project in Gujarat yesterday. A delegation comprising of Shri Nitishwar Kumar-IAS, Principal Secretary to LG, J&K, Ms. Sushma Chauhan-IAS, District Magistrate Jammu and Chief Executive Officer Jammu Smart City Ltd., Ms. AvnyLavasa -IAS, Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation, Shri Satish Kumar Sharma, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Jammu Smart City Ltd., Shri Ravindra Mansotra, Superintending Engineer, PWD, Jammu and Shri Pawan Tikoo, Executive Engineer, PWD, Jammu visited SRFD Project on January 10, 2021. They were briefed about the Sabarmati River Front by Gujarat government officials.

The visit assumes significance in view of the future plan regarding the Tawi River Front in Jammu. As per media reports, Tawi River in Jammu will have Riverfront on the lines of Sabarmati River Front Development SRFD Project. It will be part of the Smart City development plan of Jammu city.

An MoU has already been signed by Jammu Development Authority with the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation to provide the people a green, healthy, and recreational Riverfront environment.

According to the sources, the officials of the SRFD Project have assisted the delegation in making the feasibility report for their Riverfront development on the Tawi River. The delegation visited unique developments at SRFD Project like Pedestrian Bridge, International standard Sports Park, the Urban Jungle-Biodiversity Park, Riverfront Flower Park, and a Smart Multi-Level Car Park.

The Chairman of Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation Shri Keshav Varma and other Senior Officials explained to the delegation about various aspects of the riverfront development project including Urban rejuvenation and transformation, large scale infrastructure improvement, Rehabilitation and Redevelopment, help retain and replenish the water, bank protection, flood management, providing better waterway, etc. Tomorrow, the delegation will also visit the Ahmedabad Smart City to study their various projects and its development strategy.
