JAMMU, Sep 20: A soldier critically injured during a gunfight with terrorists in Udhampur succumbed to his injuries on Saturday as the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police resumed a large scale search operation in the region.
The attack occurred late Friday evening when terrorists opened fire on a joint search party of the Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) at the Seoj Dhar forest border, spanning the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur and Bhaderwah in Doda. The injured soldier was immediately shifted to a hospital but could not survive, officials said.
Security forces maintained a tight cordon around the encounter site overnight, and the joint operation resumed early Saturday. Intelligence suggests that two to three terrorists are still hiding in the dense forest.
Reinforcements equipped with drones and sniffer dogs were deployed from Udhampur and Doda to intensify the search. As of the latest updates, no fresh contact with the terrorists has been reported. Authorities continue to conduct a thorough operation to neutralize the threat and ensure the safety of the region.
