MHA Allocates Seniority to Five IPS Officers in Jammu and Kashmir Cadre

Decision formalises service seniority, making officers eligible for promotions, pensionary and financial benefits in line with CAT orders.

Jammu, Jun 22: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an order assigning seniority and fixing the years of allotment for five Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, clearing the way for revised service benefits including promotions and pensionrelated entitlements.

According to an official order dated June 12, the MHA has formalised the seniority of officers appointed to the IPS cadre in August 2025. These officers were selected through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) from select lists of 2010, 2011, and 2012.

As per the notification, Sunil Dutt has been allotted the year of allotment 2005, while Abhay Kumar Mahajan and Rupender Kumar have been assigned 2006. Rajnish Pran has been given the year 2007, and Ashok Kumar Sharma has been allotted 2009.

The order effectively places the officers in an earlier seniority bracket within the cadre, which will now determine their eligibility for consequential service benefits such as promotions, pensionary advantages, and financial entitlements.

Officials noted that the decision has been implemented in compliance with directions issued by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which had earlier examined disputes related to seniority fixation and service conditions.

With the issuance of this order, administrative clarity has been provided regarding the service hierarchy of the concerned officers, paving the way for the implementation of revised service benefits under the updated seniority structure.

The development is expected to have a direct impact on career progression within the cadre, as seniority plays a crucial role in determining postings, promotions, and other service-related advantages in the Indian Police Service.
