Patwaris stage protest at DC office complex in Jammu demanding fulfillment of agreed demands

02-03-2023 : A group of patwaris from various parts of Jammu held a protest today at the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex demanding the fulfillment of their already agreed demands. The protest, which lasted from morning to evening, included a sit-in and slogans demanding an increase in the grade pay of graduate patwaris and timely departmental promotion. Additionally, they demanded government accommodation for Patwar Khanas, basic facilities for Patwar offices, a ban on direct recruitment of Naib-Tehsildars, the creation of GQ circles, and transfers of GQs out of the district.

The protesting patwaris expressed their frustration, stating that despite assurances from the Revenue Secretary in March 2022, their demands have not been met, even after almost a year. They claimed that they were repeatedly forced to resort to protests due to the lack of action by the authorities. Similar protests were also held in other districts of Jammu province.

The patwaris demanded that the government increase the grade pay of patwaris from Rs 2400 to 2800, bifurcate patwar halqas, and grant a 75% Naib Tehsildar quota to patwaris through promotion.
