JAMMU, December 11: The President of the Pradesh Congress Committee, Vikar Rasool Wani, reiterated the commitment of his party to persist in the fight for upholding the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly regarding land, jobs, and the swift restoration of statehood. Speaking at a press conference held at the party office alongside other leaders, Wani emphasized that the Congress would continue its democratic struggle to safeguard these essential rights, which were affected by the abrogation of special provisions under Article 370 by the BJP Government.
Wani underscored the discontent among the people over the loss of their land and job rights due to the actions of the BJP Government. He affirmed that the Congress would persist in its democratic struggle to secure protection for these rights, particularly if the INC-led government assumes power at the center.
Highlighting the significance of the Supreme Court’s verdict on Article 370, Wani noted that the court deemed the prolonged non-holding of elections in Jammu and Kashmir as “unconstitutional and undemocratic.” He regarded this as a rebuke to the BJP Government for denying the democratic rights of the people of J&K for over five and a half years.
Regarding the restoration of statehood, Wani acknowledged the government’s assurance to the Supreme Court to expedite the process. However, he pressed for the immediate restoration of statehood without further delay, especially before the scheduled Assembly elections.
Wani asserted that the Congress Party remains committed to its struggle for restoring the rights of the people, emphasizing the protection of land and jobs, and urged the expeditious reinstatement of statehood. He indicated that the party would delve into further details of the Supreme Court judgment.
Ravinder Sharma referred to the party’s stance as per the CWC resolution on the issue, emphasizing that the party had left the question of constitutionality to the Apex Court. The press conference was attended by Working President Raman Bhalla, Senior Vice Presidents Th Balwan Singh and Ravinder Sharma, General Secretaries Narinder Gupta, Pawan Raina, Narinder Sharma, Suresh Dogra, along with Rajveer Singh and Ricky Dalotra.
