PATNA, July 18: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad has been referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, for specialised medical care after experiencing fluctuations in his blood pressure. The veteran politician is scheduled to travel to the national capital on Saturday following a medical evaluation at Patna’s Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS).
The 77-year-old leader was admitted to IGIMS on Friday evening after family members noticed irregularities in his blood pressure. Doctors immediately carried out a series of examinations to assess his condition and ensure there were no immediate complications.
According to his eldest daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Misa Bharti, Prasad’s health improved after receiving medical attention, allowing doctors to discharge him from the hospital. However, considering his medical history and the need for specialised supervision, the family decided to shift him to AIIMS Delhi for further evaluation and treatment.
Speaking to reporters, Bharti said her father was admitted to IGIMS after fluctuations in his blood pressure. She added that doctors thoroughly examined him and discharged him once his condition stabilised. She confirmed that he would now undergo further medical care at AIIMS Delhi under the supervision of specialists.
The decision to shift the RJD patriarch to AIIMS comes as part of a precautionary approach, given his long-standing health concerns. Over the past several years, Lalu Prasad has undergone treatment for multiple medical conditions, including kidney-related ailments and heart issues. He has frequently visited AIIMS Delhi for periodic check-ups and specialised treatment.
Doctors at IGIMS monitored his vital parameters throughout his stay and found his condition stable before recommending continued care at the premier medical institution in the national capital.
The news of his hospitalisation prompted concern among party workers and supporters across Bihar. Several RJD leaders visited IGIMS to enquire about his health and expressed confidence that he would recover soon under expert medical supervision.
Political leaders from different parties also extended their wishes for his speedy recovery, acknowledging his significant contribution to Bihar’s political landscape over several decades.
Lalu Prasad remains one of the most influential political figures in Bihar. Despite health challenges in recent years, he continues to play a guiding role in the Rashtriya Janata Dal and remains actively involved in key political decisions through consultations with party leaders and family members.
AIIMS Delhi has been overseeing much of his treatment in recent years, making it the preferred destination for advanced medical evaluation whenever specialised care is required. Medical experts there are expected to conduct further tests and determine the next course of treatment after his arrival.
Family members have assured party workers that his condition is stable and that the transfer to Delhi is primarily intended to ensure comprehensive medical monitoring and access to specialised healthcare facilities.
With Prasad now heading to AIIMS Delhi, supporters across the country are hoping for a smooth recovery and a positive medical assessment from the team of specialists treating him.
