Voters in West Bengal Casting Ballots Without Fear This Time: PM Modi

High voter turnout in second phase signals growing public confidence, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi

HARDOI (Uttar Pradesh), Apr 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the ongoing assembly elections in West Bengal are witnessing a new level of public confidence, with voters participating freely in what he described as a “fearless atmosphere,” a shift he noted was difficult to imagine in previous decades.

Speaking at a public event following the inauguration of the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of the day as part of India’s democratic process, pointing to the strong participation in the second and final phase of polling across 142 constituencies.

He noted that early reports indicate a robust turnout, mirroring the enthusiasm seen during the first phase. According to him, visuals circulating widely show long queues outside polling booths, reflecting the electorate’s eagerness to exercise their franchise.

The Prime Minister remarked that the current voting environment represents a notable departure from past decades, where such widespread participation without apprehension was rarely seen. He emphasized that the present scenario demonstrates a strengthening of democratic values and institutions in the country.

Calling the turnout a “powerful expression” of constitutional rights, he credited the people of the state for their awareness and active engagement in the electoral process. He also conveyed appreciation for voters turning out in large numbers, underlining their role in shaping governance.

Looking ahead, Narendra Modi said the results of the assembly elections, scheduled to be announced on May 4, are expected to reinforce the broader national vision of development and progress.

The ongoing polling phase is seen as a crucial step in determining the political direction of West Bengal, with participation levels being closely monitored by observers and stakeholders alike.
