NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has approved development projects worth more than ₹441 crore to improve civic infrastructure and living conditions in JJ clusters across the national capital. The initiative, spanning the financial years 2025–26 and 2026–27, aims to provide better sanitation, drinking water, roads, drainage and other essential public facilities to lakhs of residents.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said that 1,510 development works have been sanctioned through the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). Of these, 1,253 projects worth ₹379.8 crore were approved during the 2025–26 financial year, while another 257 works valued at ₹61.3 crore have received approval for 2026–27.
According to the Chief Minister, the projects are designed to strengthen basic urban infrastructure in settlements that have long faced inadequate civic amenities. The works include the construction and renovation of community toilets and public utility complexes, upgrading community centres, improving drinking water distribution networks and modernising sewerage systems.
The development programme also covers the construction and repair of internal roads, lanes and drains to ensure smoother connectivity and improved sanitation. In addition, authorities will strengthen street lighting, upgrade electrical infrastructure, build boundary walls and entrance gates, develop stormwater drainage systems and undertake beautification of public spaces.
The projects will be implemented across several Assembly constituencies, including Narela, Timarpur, Adarsh Nagar, Jahangirpuri, Azadpur, Bawana, Rohini, Seemapuri, Trilokpuri, Shahdara, Karawal Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Dwarka and Najafgarh, along with various other parts of Delhi.
Gupta said the government’s objective extends beyond creating physical infrastructure. The larger goal is to provide residents of JJ clusters with cleaner surroundings, safer neighbourhoods and improved access to essential public services that support a dignified quality of life.
She also highlighted that affordable Atal Canteens are being established in multiple Assembly constituencies to provide nutritious meals at subsidised prices to economically weaker sections, complementing the broader welfare initiatives being undertaken in the city.
The Chief Minister noted that DUSIB is accelerating the execution of civic infrastructure projects to address long-standing deficiencies in urban services. The ongoing works are expected to significantly improve access to clean water, efficient sewerage, reliable street lighting and better public facilities, contributing to healthier and more liveable communities across Delhi’s JJ clusters.
