13-10-2023 : Jammu and Kashmir is preparing for a spell of widespread intermittent light to moderate rain or snow, particularly in higher elevations, over the course of the next four days, starting from Saturday. The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar made this forecast, suggesting that this weather pattern will persist for the near future.
Over the next 24 hours, the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar predicts light to moderate rain or snow in higher areas. As the days progress, there is a high likelihood of widespread intermittent light to moderate rain or snow affecting the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir. Moreover, the possibility of heavy snowfall in certain regions of these higher elevations cannot be ruled out, with a 75 percent chance of occurrence during this period, according to the Meteorological Office.
It’s anticipated that these weather fluctuations will result in a noticeable drop in temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir. Presently, the weather is mainly clear, but it is expected to become overcast towards the evening. There’s also a possibility of rain or snow occurring over higher elevations during the night, particularly in scattered areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The inclement weather conditions may lead to temporary disruptions in transportation, particularly in vulnerable areas such as Zojila Pass, Mughal Road, Sinthan Top, Sadnatop, and other high-altitude regions in the Kashmir valley.
The Meteorological Office has also issued an advisory for farmers, recommending the postponement of crop harvesting from October 14 to 18 in anticipation of adverse weather conditions.
As for the current temperature readings, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of 8.7 degrees Celsius on Friday. In other regions, the tourist destination of Pahalgam in south Kashmir registered 3.7 degrees Celsius, Kokernag had 8.9 degrees Celsius, and the Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir reported 6.6 degrees Celsius, according to data from the Meteorological Office. These figures reflect the prevailing weather conditions in the region.
