New York, Aug 6: The 64th New York Film Festival has announced its main selection for 2026, featuring a diverse range of international films and works from some of the world’s leading filmmakers.
The festival’s main slate includes 32 films representing different genres and storytelling styles. James Gray’s crime drama Paper Tiger will open the event, while Ava DuVernay’s documentary 14th has been selected as the closing film.
The programme will also showcase works from acclaimed directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Andrew Haigh, Mike Leigh and other international filmmakers. The festival organisers said the selection reflects contemporary global issues and varied cinematic perspectives.
Among the major attractions is the world premiere of Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!, featuring Pedro Pascal in the lead role. The festival will also include the premiere of Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla Minus Zero, adding a major global franchise entry to the lineup.
The announcement has strengthened expectations for a year of diverse storytelling, bringing together established filmmakers and new cinematic voices on one platform.
