DEHRADUN, Apr 22: The sacred portals of Kedarnath Temple were ceremoniously opened to devotees on Wednesday morning, marking the formal commencement of the annual Char Dham pilgrimage. The shrine, nestled in the Himalayas, came alive with spiritual energy as Vedic chants and traditional rituals echoed through the valley.
Thousands of pilgrims from across the country gathered at the temple premises to witness the auspicious occasion. The temple was adorned with an elaborate floral decoration using nearly 15 quintals of flowers, creating a vibrant and devotional atmosphere. Chants of “Har Har Mahadev” reverberated in the surroundings as devotees eagerly awaited their turn for darshan.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was present at the ceremony and performed the inaugural Pooja, seeking blessings for the well-being of the state and its people. Following the ritual, he reviewed the arrangements put in place to facilitate the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister emphasized the administration’s efforts to enhance the experience for pilgrims. He highlighted improvements in crowd management, particularly the streamlined queue system designed to ensure efficient movement. According to officials, early visitors were able to complete their darshan within a matter of minutes, reflecting the effectiveness of the arrangements.
Dhami also called upon devotees to actively participate in maintaining the sanctity and cleanliness of the pilgrimage route. He urged visitors to support the “Green Yatra” initiative by avoiding plastic usage and preserving the fragile Himalayan environment.
The opening of Kedarnath marks a significant milestone in the Char Dham Yatra calendar. The portals of Badrinath Temple are scheduled to open on April 23, while Yamunotri Temple and Gangotri Temple had already welcomed devotees earlier this week.
Authorities have implemented extensive measures, including enhanced security, medical facilities, and infrastructure upgrades, to accommodate the anticipated surge in pilgrims this season. Officials remain optimistic that the yatra will proceed smoothly, drawing devotees from across India and beyond.
As the spiritual journey begins, the reopening of Kedarnath once again symbolizes faith, devotion, and the enduring cultural heritage of the Himalayan pilgrimage tradition.
