Jammu, Mar 4: National Conference MLA Riyaz Ahmed Khan on Tuesday called upon Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take immediate steps to secure the return of two Kashmiri youths reportedly detained in Myanmar. Raising the issue in the assembly during the debate on the lieutenant governor’s address, Khan urged the government to act swiftly in bringing the stranded individuals back home.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Khan informed the House that the two individuals, Adnan Khan and Naveed Khan from Gopalpura Shangus in Anantnag East, had been taken into custody by Myanmar’s Coast Guard. According to him, the youths had initially traveled to Thailand through a private recruitment agency but were later relocated, leading to their detention along with several other Indians near the Myanmar border during a protest.
“I have been receiving frantic calls from their families, who are deeply distressed over their uncertain fate,” Khan said while addressing the assembly. He emphasized that the parents of the detainees, Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan and Aijaz Ahmed Khan, had informed him about the sequence of events, expressing their helplessness in securing the release of their children.
Khan asserted that he had already raised the issue with the authorities and formally notified the government. “These boys need to be brought back at the earliest. I urge the chief minister to take urgent diplomatic measures and ensure their safe return,” he added.
