Mumbai, July 22 : Singer Sunidhi Chauhan has shared the reason behind her decision to step away from judging singing reality shows, saying she no longer felt connected to the direction the format was taking.
Speaking to veteran actor Shekhar Suman on his talk show Shekhar Tonite, Sunidhi revealed that leaving television judging panels was a conscious choice. When Shekhar pointed out that she had stayed away from controversies and had not appeared as a reality show judge for quite some time, the singer agreed and said she realised it was no longer the right space for her.
Reflecting on her decision, Sunidhi explained that technological tools such as Auto-Tune and Melodyne were originally meant to enhance studio recordings creatively. However, she felt uncomfortable when similar practices began influencing singing competitions, where performances are expected to showcase genuine vocal ability.
According to the singer, the shift blurred the line between live talent and edited sound, making it difficult for her to continue being part of such shows. She said she preferred an environment where performances remained authentic and transparent.
The conversation also turned to the challenges musicians sometimes face during live concerts. Shekhar referred to incidents involving singers such as KK and Sonu Nigam and asked whether Sunidhi had ever experienced similar situations while performing on stage.
Sunidhi responded that she has been fortunate throughout her career and has never encountered such behaviour from audiences. She credited her fans for consistently treating her with affection and respect, adding that their support has made every performance memorable.
Known for her powerful vocals and energetic stage presence, Sunidhi remains one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, while continuing to focus on live concerts and music projects outside the reality television space.
