An FIR has been registered against the construction firm in the Jammu and Kashmir tunnel collapse case. All bodies were recovered from the site.

21-09-222 : Following the May 19 collapse of an under-construction tunnel in Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, a case has been filed against construction firm SARALA.

During an audit on Thursday, a tiny section of the front side of the tunnel at Khoni nallah fell, according to officials. Police and the Army quickly initiated a coordinated rescue operation.

On Saturday, the bodies of seven more labourers were recovered, bringing the total death toll to ten.

The rescue attempt was called off after authorities were forced to cancel it due to a new landslide on Friday evening. The terrain continues to obstruct the rescue effort.

The rescue mission is now complete, with all ten bodies recovered.

In addition, the firm would pay the kin of each deceased person Rs 15 lakh in compensation. From the relief money, the government would also provide Rs 1 lakh as an ex-gratia payment. Jadav Roy, Gautam Roy, Dipak Roy, and Parimal Roy, all of West Bengal, and Shiva Chouhan, of Assam, were among those trapped inside the tunnel, along with Nepalese nationals Navaraj Chaudhary and Kushi Ram Chaudhary, and Mohammad Muzaffar Mohammad Ishirat, both of Marog District Ramban, J&K.
