10 Militants Killed in Security Operation in Northwest Pakistan
Security forces conducted operations in North Waziristan and Hangu while a separate convoy attack killed six soldiers.
PESHAWAR, Sept 18: Ten militants, including six members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), were killed during two separate security operations in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military’s media wing said on Friday.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the intelligence based operations were conducted between Tuesday and Thursday in areas affected by militant activity.
In North Waziristan, security forces launched an operation targeting a suspected militant hideout. An exchange of fire followed, during which six TTP members were killed. The Pakistani military refers to the group as “Fitna al-Khawarij.”
A separate operation was conducted in Hangu district, where four additional militants were killed, ISPR said.
Security forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the militants following the operations. The military said those killed were involved in several terrorist activities in the region.
A clearance operation was continuing in the affected areas as security personnel searched for any other militants and worked to secure the locations following the clashes.
In a separate incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, six Pakistani Army soldiers were killed when their convoy came under attack. According to ISPR, the convoy was targeted with an improvised explosive device.
The latest incidents highlight the continuing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Pakistani forces have carried out repeated operations against militant groups.
Authorities have continued security and clearance measures in areas affected by militant violence following the latest operations and attack.
