India dominate day two at Arun Jaitley Stadium, eyeing 500-run mark with Gill and Jurel at the crease

New Delhi, Oct 13: Skipper Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 75, while Yashasvi Jaiswal struck 175 as India reached 427/4 in 116 overs at lunch on day two of the second and final Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.

India added 109 runs in the morning session, with Jaiswal resuming on 173 but falling early due to a run-out in the second over. Gill, resuming on 20 off 67 balls, played a proactive innings, bringing up his fifty off 95 balls with elegant drives and flicks.

Promoted up the order, Nitish Kumar Reddy showed promise, surviving a dropped catch at 20, before eventually falling for 43. With Dhruv Jurel (7)* at the crease alongside Gill, India aim to breach the 500-run mark and put further pressure on the West Indies.

Jaiswal’s run out ended his bid for a third Test double century in dramatic fashion. After a miscommunication with Gill, Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s direct hit at the keeper’s end left Jaiswal stranded, and he was dismissed despite desperate efforts to return to the crease.

Reddy displayed aggressive intent, hitting two sixes and a four off spinner Jomel Warrican, before holing out on a slog sweep. Gill continued to anchor the innings, timing his shots superbly and guiding India through another dominant session.
