Administration clears backlog on highway, ensures smooth supply of fruits and essential commodities

Srinagar, Sept 18: In a significant relief for fruit growers and traders, the Divisional Administration has evacuated 4,873 fruit-laden trucks over the last two days, ensuring unhindered movement of horticultural produce from the Valley.

According to officials, 2,239 trucks were cleared via the National Highway and 2,634 through the Mughal Road, under the supervision of the Inspector General of Traffic. An additional 500 trucks are scheduled to leave Qazigund by midnight, which will completely clear the backlog of stranded vehicles and streamline traffic movement.

The massive transportation drive was carried out under the continuous monitoring of Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, who has been holding daily reviews with stakeholder departments to oversee highway restoration, traffic regulation, and the smooth evacuation of perishable produce.

In addition to fruit consignments, the administration has facilitated the movement of Valley-bound trucks carrying essential commodities, including LPG, petrol, diesel, fresh vegetables, and life-saving drugs, to replenish local markets and meet public demand.

Officials said that mobilizing all available resources ensured timely intervention, minimizing losses to fruit growers and stabilizing the supply chain.
