England, Jan 08 : The fifth and final Ashes Test between Australia and England, held at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), made history by drawing the highest ever attendance for a Test at the venue, surpassing the 1946-47 record. Over five days, 211,032 spectators watched Australia dominate England and secure a 4-1 series victory, breaking the previous SCG Test record of 195,253 set during the post-war Ashes series.
Australia completed the series with a thrilling five-wicket win in the fifth Test, chasing 160 on a challenging final day pitch. England started positively, with Matthew Potts hitting a boundary off the first ball and Jacob Bethell reaching 150. Mitchell Starc concluded the innings with key wickets, finishing the series with a remarkable 31 scalps.
In the Australian chase, Travis Head and the openers provided a strong 62-run start, while Josh Tongue struck early for England. Despite losing quick wickets mid-innings, Cameron Green and Alex Carey steadied the chase with a vital 40-run partnership.
