On July 20, 2023, the annual Amarnath Yatra witnessed a significant number of devotees departing from the Bhagwati Nagar Base camp in Jammu. The yatra, a pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas, attracts thousands of devotees from across the country.
A total of 6,523 pilgrims began their journey towards the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine, filled with devotion and enthusiasm. Amidst the serene surroundings, the pilgrims chanted ‘Bam Bam Bhole,’ a popular hymn dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is the principal deity of the Amarnath Yatra.
The pilgrimage commenced with a convoy of 262 vehicles transporting the devotees from the base camp towards their destination. This massive number of pilgrims underscores the spiritual significance and popularity of the Amarnath Yatra, which continues to draw devotees seeking blessings and spiritual solace.
The pilgrims were divided into two groups, with one group consisting of 3,746 individuals (comprising 2,995 males, 665 females, two children, 75 sadhus, and nine sadhvis) headed for Pahalgam. Pahalgam serves as one of the base camps for the Amarnath Yatra and is an essential starting point for devotees who choose this route to reach the holy cave.
Another group of 2,777 pilgrims (consisting of 1,750 males, 1,020 females, one child, and six sadhus) embarked on the journey towards Baltal, another significant base camp for the Amarnath Yatra. Baltal is known for its picturesque beauty and serves as an alternative route for pilgrims to reach the Amarnath Cave Shrine.
The authorities ensured tight security arrangements for the yatra, given its massive scale and religious importance. The safety and well-being of the pilgrims are of utmost importance, and the government, along with security forces, takes necessary measures to provide a secure and peaceful environment for the devotees throughout the pilgrimage.
The Amarnath Yatra is an annual event that commences on July 1 and lasts until August 31.
