Labourers clash over discovery; coins sent to Archaeological Department for investigation
Barabanki (UP), Sept 19: A cache of 75 silver coins was discovered during the demolition of a house in the Lodheshwar Mahadeva area of Barabanki district, sparking a clash among labourers, police said on Friday.
The coins, believed to date back to the eras of Queen Victoria and George V, were found in an earthen pot at the residence of Jai Narayan Gupta on Thursday evening. The discovery led to chaos as workers at the site argued over the coins, drawing a crowd.
Police quickly arrived to restore order. Mahadeva police outpost in-charge Abhinandan Pandey, along with Naib Tehsildar Vijay Prakash Tiwari and SHO Ramnagar Anil Kumar Pandey, took possession of the coins and completed the necessary formalities. The seized coins will be sent to the Archaeological Department for further examination.
The landowner, Hari Narayan Gupta, confirmed the recovery and said the coins were secured from the labourers present at the site. Authorities are now investigating the historical significance of the coins.
