Rahul Gandhi Calls Karra, Urges Congress Cadres to Assist Border Civilians, Laud Forces’ Strike

JKPCC Denounces Civilian Targeting, Urges Global Sanctions Against Pakistan’s War Crimes

Jammu, 07-05-2025: In the wake of the recent cross-border hostilities, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra to take stock of the situation along the Line of Control (LoC). Expressing deep concern over the rising civilian casualties and destruction in border areas following intense shelling from across the border, Gandhi conveyed his solidarity with the affected people and instructed party cadres to offer every possible assistance to the victims.

According to JKPCC sources, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the need for Congress party workers not only to provide humanitarian relief to the injured and displaced civilians but also to extend their fullest cooperation to the security forces and local administration operating under challenging conditions in the region. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.

The JKPCC, in a strong statement, lauded the Indian armed forces for their bold and decisive response through precision strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and across the border. “The entire nation stands firmly behind our brave soldiers in the fight against terrorism,” said a party spokesperson, reiterating the Congress party’s unflinching support for the armed forces.

Reacting sharply to the indiscriminate shelling by Pakistan, which has led to the loss of several innocent lives and injuries to many in districts such as Poonch, Rajouri, Kupwara, and Baramulla, JKPCC President Karra, along with working presidents Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla and Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, strongly condemned Islamabad’s deliberate targeting of civilian areas and places of worship. The party described these acts as blatant violations of international humanitarian norms and urged the global community to take serious note of Pakistan’s continued provocations and sponsorship of terrorism. The party also called for international sanctions on Pakistan for its repeated transgressions.

In a humanitarian call to action, Karra directed all party cadres, especially the youth and grassroots volunteers, to mobilize resources and extend all necessary help to the affected populations. This includes organizing relief camps, assisting in medical aid, coordinating with local authorities, and preparing for blood donations wherever required. Young party workers have been asked to remain on standby and participate actively in ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of displaced and injured civilians.

Ravinder Sharma noted that senior Congress leaders are personally visiting the affected regions along the border, providing moral support to the victims and ensuring that immediate aid reaches those in distress. “Groups of volunteers are being activated in multiple sectors to address urgent needs and offer logistical support to both civilians and on-ground forces,” he said.

The party has reiterated its call for a robust and uncompromising response to cross-border terrorism and provocations and saluted the courage and commitment of India’s armed forces for their continued sacrifices in defending the sovereignty and security of the nation.
