Raman Bhalla, Yogesh Sawhney, Ved Mahajan visited flood affected areas;demands rehabilitation of 35 families of Sunjawan
Jammu, August 29, 2025: A team of senior Congress leaders, including Former Minister & Working President PCC Mr. Raman Bhalla, Former Minister Shri Yogesh Sawhney, Former MLC I/C HQ Ved Mahajan besides other local leaders today visited rain & flood-affected areas of Rajiv Colony behind Jammu University in Ward No. 19 and Lower Gujjar Nagar in Ward No.6 and other parts of City and took stock of the prevailing situation arising out of heavy rains & floods and the problems being faced by the people of these areas. They visited the New Company Bagh and Old University Lane and took stock of the problems of the affected people.
Shri Bhalla also visited the worst flood affected locality Barmini in Sunjawan, from where 35 families consisting of 198 souls have been uprooted and taken shelter in a School. He said that there is urgent need of providing them shelter and ex gratia relief. Bhalla urged upon the administration to take immediate measures for their rehabilitation on a permanent basis.
Expressing serious concern over the situation arising out of heavy rains and flood in various localities of low lying areas of Jammu City, Mr. Bhalla said that the government must take the plight of people seriously, in view of heavy losses suffered by the people of these areas. He said that the Congress party is very much concerned about the prevailing situation and the safety of the people. He assured the people that party will leave no stone unturned in highlighting the problems of people and extending all sorts of help to the affected people of these areas.
Urging upon the authorities Mr. Bhalla said that there is need for taking immediate measures for the safety of the people of these areas and demanded that the government and the concerned agencies must be geared up for undertaking safety measures on war footing.
Mr. Bhalla demanded that loss of household goods and damage of houses of these areas be assessed immediately in order to provide them relief and compensation, besides demanding immediate release of ex-gratia relief to the worst-affected families.
Other prominent people who accompanied Mr. Bhalla included S/Shri Varinder Manhas, Ram Magotra, Rakesh Sharma, Ajay Kumar, Vijay Singh, Atul Sharma, Paras Basin, Rishav Shibu and and others.
Meanwhile, PCC leaders handed over food items to the Indian Youth Congress observer for J&K, Mr. Mahan Singh Rathore, who is leading a team of the Pradesh Youth Congress to help the flood victims. Mr. Rathore is accompanied by Faiz Dewan, Anirudh Sawhney, Anmol Kohli, Mehul Abrol, Soowkat Muttaib, Navjot Singh, and others, who are on the job of disbursing food items to the most affected families on behalf of the party.
