Indian Railways Vows Full Commitment to Special Cleanliness Drive
Ministry of Railways gears up for nationwide cleanliness drive, targeting institutional reforms, waste management, and pending matters clearance.
New Delhi, Sept 18: The Ministry of Railways on Thursday reaffirmed its commitment to the successful implementation of the ongoing cleanliness campaign, announcing that preparations for Special Campaign 5.0 are in full swing across the Indian Railways network.
The Government of India launched the initiative on September 15, 2025, with the active phase scheduled between October 2 and 31, 2025. The campaign aims to institutionalize “Swachhata” (cleanliness) while also focusing on the timely disposal of pending matters.
The Railway Board, under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar, is closely monitoring preparations. Detailed guidelines have been circulated through a D.O. letter to all general managers and unit heads. A review meeting chaired by the Secretary, Railway Board, on August 27 further assessed readiness.
All 17 Zonal Railways, 70 Divisional Offices, 10 PSUs, 9 Production Units, and 9 Central Training Institutes have been instructed to actively participate. Over 150 nodal officers have been designated, supported by a dedicated social media group for real-time updates and coordination.
Preparations are underway to set measurable targets across multiple campaign parameters, including file reviews, clearance of pending references, cleanliness drives, e-waste management, and scrap disposal.
Reaffirming its pledge, the Ministry stated: “The Railways remains dedicated to making cleanliness a daily institutional practice and ensuring timely resolution of all pending matters. With coordinated planning and participation across all units, Special Campaign 5.0 will be made a resounding success.”
