CDS Gen Anil Chauhan: ‘Armed Forces Are the Only Institution Free from Nepotism’

Urges students in Ranchi to join the armed forces, highlights Operation Sindoor and rescue missions during natural disasters

Ranchi, Sep 18: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan on Thursday emphasized that the armed forces remain the only institution in the country where nepotism finds no place. Interacting with school children in Ranchi, he encouraged them to aspire for a career in the military to serve the nation and experience diverse opportunities.

“The ‘fauj’ is the only place where there is no nepotism. You should aspire to join the armed forces if you want to serve the country and explore both India and the world,” Gen Chauhan told the students.

He also underlined the role of the military in humanitarian assistance, pointing out that the forces made maximum efforts this year to rescue citizens during natural calamities.

Speaking about Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, the CDS said the first strike was carried out at 1 am on May 7 to avoid civilian casualties. “Precision strikes on long-distance targets at night required special efforts. We decisively defeated Pakistan at every stage of escalation during Operation Sindoor,” he added.

Gen Chauhan further noted that modern warfare has expanded into newer domains, with cyber operations and technology playing a critical role in defence strategy.
