Trump and Musk Reunite at Memorial for Kirk, Paying Tribute to ‘Charlie’
The former president and Tesla CEO share a public moment at Utah memorial, signaling a thaw in their previously strained relationship.
UTAH, Sept 22: Former U.S. President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk were seen sitting side by side at the memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, marking their first public interaction since Musk resigned from his government role earlier this year.
Musk shared a post on X alongside a photo with Trump, captioned: “For Charlie.” The two were observed speaking privately during the service, an encounter highlighted by a White House social media account.
Musk had served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency until late May, when he publicly criticised a key administration policy as “fiscally irresponsible.” Following his resignation, Musk’s social media critiques of Trump led to tensions, with the former president threatening to cancel federal contracts with Musk’s companies.
Vice President JD Vance delivered a heartfelt tribute, urging supporters to honour Kirk’s legacy “for Charlie.” He described Kirk as a patriot and man of faith, calling on attendees to continue speaking the truth and upholding the values Kirk championed.
Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, also spoke emotionally, forgiving Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old arrested for the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10. “I forgive him, I forgive him because it is what Christ did. The answer to hate is not hate,” she said, quoting Jesus: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Charlie Kirk, 31, was the founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent right-wing commentator. Authorities have noted that Robinson held left-leaning political views. The memorial drew attention from political leaders and supporters across the conservative spectrum, reflecting Kirk’s influence in American political discourse.
