Vietnam Typhoon Bualoi Death Toll Climbs to 11
13 Missing, 33 Injured Amid Floods, Collapsed Homes, and Infrastructure Damage
The death toll from Typhoon Bualoi in Vietnam has climbed to 11, with 13 people still missing and 33 others injured, according to local reports.
In Ninh Binh province, northern Vietnam, six fatalities and seven injuries were reported. Across the province, 10 homes collapsed while another 10 suffered severe roof damage. The storm also flattened large areas of rice fields, uprooted numerous trees, and toppled around 30 electricity poles, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment.
Meanwhile, 17 people remain unaccounted for in Quang Tri and Gia Lai provinces. In addition, two fatalities were reported in Hue city and Thanh Hoa province due to floods and falling trees.
In central Ha Tinh province, strong winds and heavy rains caused the coal storage roof of a thermal power plant to collapse late Sunday night, with repairs expected to take several months.
Typhoon Bualoi is forecast to be the 10th typhoon to hit Vietnam this year, following Typhoon Ragasa earlier in September. Local authorities have urged vigilance, instructing fishing vessels to seek shelter, mobilising rescue teams, and ensuring the safety of residents in vulnerable areas.
Authorities warned that the torrential rains could trigger flooding in low-lying regions, flash floods on smaller rivers, and landslides in steep terrains. Residents have been advised to stay alert as the storm continues to affect northern and central Vietnam.
