Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh to lead India at 11th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit in South Africa
Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh will lead the Indian Parliamentary Delegation to the 11th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20), scheduled from October 1 to 3 in Kleinmond, Western Cape, South Africa.
According to Rajya Sabha sources, Harivansh will participate in key deliberations, underscoring India’s commitment to global cooperation, democratic engagement, and sustainable development. He is slated to speak at two thematic sessions: “Strengthening Disaster Resilience and Responses” and “Mobilising Finance for a Just Energy Transition”, highlighting India’s policies on climate resilience, disaster preparedness, and sustainable energy pathways.
Additionally, the Deputy Chairman will chair a session on “Harnessing Critical Minerals for Sustainable Development”, further projecting India’s focus on sustainable resource management.
On the sidelines of the summit, Harivansh is expected to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from Germany, Italy, and other nations, aimed at strengthening inter parliamentary cooperation, deepening democratic partnerships, and promoting India’s leadership role in the Global South.
This year’s 11th P20 Summit is hosted under the G20 Presidency of South Africa, marking the first time an African nation has hosted the event. The summit theme, “Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability”, encompasses four working sessions focusing on disaster resilience, equitable energy transition, debt sustainability in low-income countries, and critical mineral utilization for sustainable development.
India previously hosted the 9th P20 Summit in New Delhi in 2023, emphasizing accelerated SDG progress, sustainable energy transitions, and reforms in multilateral institutions.
