Ayodhya Sees Over a Million Devotees for 14 Kosi Parikrama Despite Heavy Rains
Unfazed by downpours, devotees march barefoot chanting “Jai Shri Ram” as security is tightened and drone surveillance monitors the 42-km sacred route.
Ayodhya, Oct 30 — Undeterred by incessant rain and muddy roads, over one million devotees participated in the sacred 14 Kosi Parikrama in Ayodhya on Thursday, displaying unshakable faith and devotion.
The 42-kilometre-long circumambulation, which began early Thursday on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Navami, saw devotees walking barefoot in chants of “Jai Shri Ram”, carrying makeshift rain protection made of plastic sheets, sacks, and tarpaulins. Many smeared mud from the holy path on their foreheads, considering it a divine blessing.
According to district officials, nearly one million participants took the ritual dip in the Saryu River before commencing the Parikrama. Despite heavy rains causing waterlogging and slippery conditions, the spiritual atmosphere remained vibrant throughout the day.
Security arrangements were intensified, with police, intelligence personnel, and drone surveillance monitoring the entire route. Dog squads and special patrols were deployed to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage. Devotees also thronged prominent temples such as the Ram Temple, Kanak Bhawan, and Hanumangarhi.
In the holy month of Kartik, followers of Sanatan Dharma undertake both the 14 Kosi and Panchkosi Parikramas symbolic journeys of faith believed to wash away sins and grant spiritual liberation.
As per the Hindu calendar, this year’s 14 Kosi Parikrama began at 4:51 a.m. on October 30 and will conclude at 4:40 a.m. on October 31. The Panchkosi Parikrama will begin at 4 a.m. on Dev Uthani Ekadashi (November 1) and continue till 2:57 a.m. on November 2.
Believers say each step in the Parikrama brings them closer to salvation a testament to enduring faith even in the face of nature’s challenges.
