JD(U) Candidate Anant Singh Arrested in Murder of Jan Suraaj Worker Ahead of Bihar Polls

Arrest of the controversial JD(U) strongman just days before the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections triggers political shockwaves across the state.

Patna, Nov 2: In a dramatic pre election twist, police have arrested Janata Dal (United) candidate from Mokama, Anant Singh, in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj worker Dularchand Yadav, escalating tensions in Bihar’s politically charged atmosphere ahead of the Assembly elections.

The arrest was confirmed by Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma, who stated that the investigation had gathered “sufficient evidence” linking Singh to the violent incident. The development comes just days before the first phase of polling on November 6, sending ripples through political circles across the state.

According to officials, the fatal clash occurred on October 30 near Khushhal Chak in Mokama. Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, also known as Lallu Mukhiya, was campaigning with his supporters, accompanied by 75 year old Dularchand Yadav, a former RJD leader. At the same time, Anant Singh and his associates were reportedly passing through the same route.

An altercation between the two groups soon escalated into stone pelting and violent clashes. During the chaos, Dularchand Yadav sustained serious injuries and was later declared dead. The incident sparked unrest in the region, prompting heavy police deployment to prevent further escalation.

The violence continued the following day when the convoy of RJD candidate Veena Devi, wife of former MP Surajbhan Singh, came under attack in the Pandarak area. Eyewitnesses reported that unidentified miscreants pelted stones at her convoy, damaging vehicles and injuring at least one person.

Anant Singh, 58, a prominent figure in Bihar politics, has long been associated with controversy and criminal allegations. His arrest just before polling has injected fresh volatility into the high stakes Mokama contest  a constituency historically known for its muscle power and political rivalries.

Police said further investigations are underway and more arrests are likely as they continue to probe the violent clashes that have overshadowed the run-up to the Bihar Assembly elections.
