Encounter Breaks Out Between Security Forces and Terrorists in J&K’s Kishtwar

Army and J&K Police launch coordinated operation in Chhatru, area witnesses sixth gunfight in seven months amid intensified anti-terror push

Jammu, Nov 5: A fierce gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces early Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials confirmed.

According to the Army’s White Knight Corps, the encounter began during an intelligence based joint operation carried out with the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Chhatru area of Kishtwar.

“In an intelligence based operation launched in coordination with the J&K Police early this morning, alert troops of the White Knight Corps established contact with terrorists in the general area of Chhatru. The operation is in progress,” the Corps said in a post on X.

Preliminary reports suggest two to three terrorists are engaged in the gunfight, and one jawan has sustained minor injuries.

Security forces have intensified surveillance and search operations across the mountainous terrain of Kishtwar, a region that borders Doda and Udhampur districts and has recently become a hotspot of militant activity.

This marks the sixth major encounter in Kishtwar in the past seven months, as forces continue their crackdown on Pakistan-based terrorists believed to be hiding in the dense forests and rugged hills.

Earlier, on September 21, a similar gun battle took place in the Chhatru area, followed by another on September 13, which claimed the lives of two Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer.

On May 22, one soldier and two terrorists were killed in the Singpora area, while three terrorists were neutralised on April 12 in a separate encounter.
The Army also foiled an infiltration attempt along the LoC in Akhnoor in April.

Security officials say the continued operations underscore the military’s resolve to eliminate terrorism from the Chenab Valley region.
