Actor Govinda apologised to family priest Pandit Mukesh Shukla after wife Sunita Ahuja accused him of exploiting faith for money, sparking fresh controversy amid marital discord rumours.
Mumbai, Nov 5: Bollywood actor Govinda has issued a public apology to his long-time family priest, Pandit Mukesh Shukla, after his wife Sunita Ahuja called the priest a “chor” (thief) in a recent podcast appearance, accusing him of making false ritual recommendations to extort money.
Sunita’s remarks, made during Paras Chhabra’s Abraa Kaa Dabra Show, quickly went viral. Amid growing backlash, Govinda took to Instagram to share a video clarifying his stance and extending an apology to the priest.
In the video, Govinda said, “Greetings to all. I want to clarify that our family priest, Pandit Mukesh Shukla, is a respected and knowledgeable man. He understands the Vedas and astrology. His father, Pandit Jatadhari, was also closely associated with our family. I condemn the remarks made by my wife and apologise sincerely.”
The actor added that Pandit Shukla had stood by him during tough times, saying, “He has always helped me and I request him to continue blessing our family.”
Sunita’s remarks spark backlash
During the podcast, Sunita Ahuja criticised the family priest, claiming he often suggests expensive rituals. “He keeps recommending new pujas and asks for lakhs of rupees. I’ve told him to do his own puja it won’t help Govinda. These so-called rituals are meaningless,” she said, adding, “All these people are chor (thieves).”
She went on to slam people close to Govinda, saying, “He’s surrounded by fools who pretend to be advisers. They dislike me because I speak the truth. These chamchas (sycophants) keep poisoning his mind.”

The controversy comes at a time when rumours of tension between Govinda and Sunita Ahuja have been circulating in entertainment circles. While the actor has maintained a dignified silence on personal matters, his latest statement suggests a desire to preserve long-standing relationships and avoid further public confrontation.
