Bihar Polls 2025: Jan Suraj Leader Sanjay Singh Switches Sides, Joins BJP

Defection comes just a day before voting begins, giving BJP a surprise boost in the Munger constituency.

Patna, Nov 5 — In a dramatic political turn just ahead of the first phase of voting, Sanjay Singh, the Jan Suraj Party’s candidate from the Munger Assembly constituency, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to party sources, Singh made the switch on the eve of polling, officially resigning from Jan Suraj and pledging support to the BJP. The development has injected new momentum into the saffron camp’s campaign in Munger, a key seat in the upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.
Sanjay Singh was considered a strong local face for Jan Suraj, led by former bureaucrat turned politician Prashant Kishor. His defection on the eve of voting is being seen as both a strategic setback for Jan Suraj and a tactical gain for the BJP, which has been looking to consolidate its influence in central Bihar.
Political observers note that last-minute crossovers like Singh’s could influence voting patterns in closely contested constituencies, especially where margins are expected to be narrow.
The first phase of polling for the Bihar Assembly elections begins tomorrow, covering multiple constituencies across the state, including Munger.
