Omar Abdullah Says PDP Betrayed People While National Conference Prioritizes Welfare and Transparency

Budgam, November 7: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah launched a scathing attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a public rally in Budgam on Friday, accusing it of deceiving the public and maintaining a covert alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Addressing a large gathering of supporters, Abdullah alleged that the PDP has consistently prioritized political expediency over public welfare, misleading the people of Jammu and Kashmir with false promises and contradictory alliances.
Speaking on the issue of electricity usage and billing, Abdullah emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency in metering. He stated that electricity consumption should only be measured where meters are installed, and billing should reflect actual usage. “If a meter is not required, it should not be forced on people. Bills must rise in proportion to genuine consumption,” he explained, adding that the National Conference government is committed to implementing its promise of providing 200 free electricity units to households. “We have made a promise, and God willing, we will fulfill it. But I urge you not to be misled by PDP’s political gimmicks that are designed to divert attention from real issues,” Abdullah told the gathering.
The Chief Minister criticized the PDP’s governance record, claiming that its leaders focused on benefiting bureaucrats and officials rather than ordinary citizens. He pointed out that while meters were installed in government offices during the PDP’s tenure, the benefits of regulated and fair billing never reached the common people. “They installed meters in offices but forgot the homes of the poor. We are working to ensure that relief and reforms reach those who need them most,” he asserted.
Omar Abdullah accused the PDP of historical hypocrisy, saying that its leadership had once aligned itself with the BJP despite claiming to oppose its ideology. “The alliance between the PDP and the BJP did not end; it continues in spirit. They may claim otherwise, but their political conduct shows a clear alignment,” he said, adding that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have paid the price for these opportunistic collaborations.
He further alleged that PDP leaders not only failed to address people’s grievances but also resorted to repression by arresting innocent individuals and ignoring the needs of marginalized communities. “While they worked to secure power, we have worked to secure the people’s welfare,” Abdullah declared.
Highlighting his government’s initiatives for the underprivileged, Abdullah said that the National Conference administration is focused on ensuring targeted assistance to those in need. “Our policies are centered on inclusivity and dignity. We aim to bring stability, employment, and sustainable development, not false promises,” he remarked.
Abdullah also appealed to the electorate to vote for a government that stands for progress, stability, and accountability. “Your vote will shape the next four years of governance. It must be guided by your hopes for better employment opportunities, improved electricity supply, and real development—not by propaganda,” he said.
He reaffirmed that the National Conference remains committed to delivering on its pledges of social justice, youth empowerment, and equitable growth. “The choice before you is clear—between those who mislead and those who deliver,” he told the crowd, urging them to reject divisive politics and support a leadership focused on people’s welfare.
