Minimum Temperatures Drop Sharply Across Kashmir Valley
Most parts of the Valley witnessed the season’s coldest night, with temperatures expected to drop further amid dry weather conditions.
Srinagar, Nov 10: The Kashmir Valley is experiencing an early onset of winter chill as temperatures dipped sharply across the region, with Srinagar recording its first sub-zero night of the season.
According to officials from the Meteorological Department, the summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.1°C on Sunday night, marking not only the first sub-zero reading but also the coldest night of the season so far. The temperature was two degrees below the seasonal average, they added.
Except for Kokernag in south Kashmir, where the minimum temperature was 1.4°C, all other major weather stations in the Valley reported freezing conditions. The popular tourist destination Pahalgam recorded the lowest temperature at minus 3.2°C, while the ski resort Gulmarg settled at minus 0.2°C.
In other parts of the Valley, Qazigund registered minus 0.9°C and Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded minus 1.2°C.
The Meteorological Department has predicted mainly dry weather till November 15 but warned that night temperatures may drop further as the cold wave intensifies.
With the mercury slipping below freezing in several areas, residents have begun winter preparations early, while the stunning frost-covered mornings have started drawing tourists to the Valley’s scenic spots.
