New Delhi, Nov 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid rich tribute to legendary tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary, recalling his unparalleled contribution to India’s struggle against colonial rule.

The Prime Minister said Birsa Munda’s courage, sacrifice, and fight against injustice would inspire generations to come. He also extended warm greetings to the people of Jharkhand on the occasion of the state’s foundation day, which coincides with the birth anniversary of the tribal icon.

In a message posted on X, PM Modi wrote:

“On this sacred occasion of Tribal Pride Day, the nation is reverently remembering the unparalleled contribution of Lord Birsa Munda Ji in protecting the pride of the motherland. His struggle and sacrifice will continue to inspire every generation. Hundredfold salutations to Bhagwan Birsa Munda Ji on his 150th birth anniversary.”

Extending greetings to Jharkhand, he added:

“Heartfelt greetings to all residents of the glorious state of Jharkhand, enriched with tribal culture, on the state’s foundation day. The history of this land of Lord Birsa Munda is filled with tales of courage, struggle, and self-respect. I pray for the state’s progress and prosperity.”

Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar on November 15, 2000, aligning with the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. Born on November 15, 1875, the revered freedom fighter led a major tribal movement against British rule across the regions of present-day Bihar and Jharkhand.

Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary is celebrated nationwide as Birsa Munda Jayanti, and it coincides with Jharkhand Foundation Day.

Meanwhile, the Central Government is observing Jan Jatiya Gaurav Varsh to honour the contributions of tribal heroes across the country. On November 15, the government will hold a national-level celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas in Gujarat’s Narmada district, to be presided over by PM Modi as part of the 150th birth anniversary tribute to Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
