Ladakh LG Condoles Loss After Blast at J&K Police Station
Eight killed, 27 injured in accidental explosion at Nowgam Police Station
LEH, Nov 15: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Saturday expressed deep grief over the fatal blast inside Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar that left eight people dead and 27 others injured.
“Deeply anguished by the tragic explosion at Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and prayers for the swift recovery of the injured,” Gupta said in a post on X.
The accidental explosion ripped through the police station late Friday night while authorities were handling and extracting samples from a large cache of explosives seized in the recently busted “white-collar terror module” case.
Officials confirmed that the blast caused extensive damage and triggered a massive rescue response as injured personnel were rushed to nearby hospitals. An inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the explosion and assess safety lapses during the sample extraction process.
