Centre Orders Major Bureaucratic Overhaul

Centre brings experienced IAS officers into strategic ministries ahead of next fiscal

New Delhi, Nov 21 ; In a wide ranging administrative overhaul, the Government has carried out a significant secretary level bureaucratic reshuffle, placing seasoned IAS officers in crucial ministries such as Petroleum, Telecommunications, Pharmaceuticals, and Agriculture. The move aims to strengthen policy execution and sectoral efficiency as ministries gear up for the next financial year.

Neeraj Mittal (IAS, 1992, TN cadre) has been appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, marking his return to a department where he previously contributed to major energy reforms.

Amit Agrawal (IAS, 1993, CG cadre) takes charge as the new Telecom Secretary, bringing with him years of experience in digital governance and a successful tenure as UIDAI Chief.

Manoj Joshi (IAS, 1989, KL cadre) will head the Department of Pharmaceuticals, backed by his diverse expertise in urban affairs, land management, and regulatory operations.

Atish Chandra (IAS, 1994, BH cadre) has been named Officer on Special Duty in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and will formally assume office as Agriculture Secretary from February 1.

In other appointments, Sunil Paliwal (IAS, 1993, TN cadre) takes over as Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India, leveraging his extensive background in maritime and infrastructure development.

V Vidyavathi has been moved to the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, while Srivatsa Krishna (IAS, 1994) assumes office as the new Tourism Secretary.

Additionally, Anju Rathi Rana has been appointed Member Secretary of the 23rd Law Commission of India, and Rajiv Mani’s tenure as Secretary of the Legislative Department has been extended until July 2028.
