Delhi Blast Probe: Report Says Dr Umar Asked Female Patients About Wearing Hijab
Investigators also examine reports of suicide bomber Dr Umar questioning female patients about hijab, prayers.
New Delhi, Nov 22: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) revisited Al Falah University on Thursday as part of its ongoing investigation into the November 10 Delhi blast, carrying out fresh enquiries into the activities of suspects linked to the institution.
During the renewed search, the agency recovered a grinder from Room No. 15 — the same location earlier connected to the seizure of 360 kg of explosive material.
Officials said the NIA has detained Shabbir, a driver from Faridabad, for questioning. Shabbir reportedly told investigators that the grinder had been purchased by Dr Muzammil, who claimed he intended to gift it for his sister’s wedding. He further informed the NIA that Dr Muzammil later moved the grinder to Room No. 15.
The November 10 blast inside a moving Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort Metro Station killed 15 people and injured more than two dozen. The car was being driven by Dr Umar Un Nabi, identified by investigators as one of the suicide bombers.
Probe Scrutinises Dr Umar’s Behaviour with Female Patients
Sources said that, alongside technical findings, investigators are examining testimonies regarding Dr Umar’s conduct while he was practicing at a hospital.
According to a source cited by UNI, Dr Umar “used to question female patients about wearing the hijab and their prayers” during consultations.
“He is reported to have asked questions such as ‘Why is your head not properly covered?’ and ‘How many times do you offer Namaz?’” the source said.
A self-recorded video previously recovered from Umar shows him attempting to justify the attack as a “martyrdom operation,” offering investigators deeper insight into his radicalisation and possible intent to influence others.
NIA Widens Arrests; Investigators Examine Radicalisation Links
The NIA has recently arrested four more accused:
• Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai of Pulwama
• Dr Shaheen Saeed of Lucknow
• Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather of Anantnag
• Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay of Shopian
Earlier arrests include Amir Rashid Ali, the registered owner of the vehicle, and Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, alleged to have provided technical support.
Investigators believe the growing list of arrests points to a wider network behind the Delhi blast probe Dr Umar case, with the agency continuing to examine digital, logistical and ideological links.
