India’s Manufacturing Sector Hits Key Inflection Point, Say Industry Leaders
Emerging technologies, automation and policy reforms driving next phase of growth
India, Nov 22 : India’s manufacturing sector has reached a critical inflection point driven by rapid adoption of emerging technologies, advanced automation and supportive government reforms, senior industry leaders said at the 4th Manufacturing Conclave 2025 organised by Assocham on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Ananta Mohan Singh, chairman and managing director of Andrew Yule & Co., said transformative initiatives such as Make in India and the National Manufacturing Commission have unlocked significant potential for global competitiveness. He said the conclave’s theme “Powering the Future of Manufacturing: Local Touch, Global Impact” reflects the roadmap for India’s next wave of industrial growth.
Singh stressed that advanced technologies are reshaping the manufacturing landscape.
“Technology has bridged gaps and helped businesses grow rapidly. The pandemic and the supply chain disruptions highlighted the need for inclusiveness, sustainability, resilience and agility,” he said. “This requires strong local manufacturing that empowers local communities and strengthens the global economy.”
At the event, Assocham released a knowledge report titled “Reimagining India’s Manufacturing Growth”, prepared in partnership with Primus Partners. The report examines global manufacturing shifts, India’s competitive advantages and policy pathways to accelerate sectoral transformation.
Avijit Mitra, chairman of Assocham’s Manufacturing Sub Council East, said AI-enabled processes and smart manufacturing will be key enablers of localised production.
“The three pillars of success for India’s manufacturing will be skill, scale and sustainability,” he said.
The conclave highlighted how digitalisation, automation and a skilled workforce could position India as a leading global manufacturing hub in the coming decade.
