PM Modi Inaugurates Skyroot’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad, Unveils Vikram-I Rocket

PM Modi Highlights India’s Private Space Sector Growth as Skyroot Launches Infinity Campus and Vikram-I Rocket

Hyderabad, Nov 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Infinity Campus of Indian space startup Skyroot on Thursday in Hyderabad, while unveiling the company’s first orbital rocket, Vikram-I, capable of launching satellites into orbit.

In his address, PM Modi lauded the government’s historic reforms in the space sector, emphasizing that opening the industry to private players has sparked a wave of innovation, with startups like Skyroot leading the way. He highlighted that over 300 space startups are now contributing to India’s rapidly expanding private space ecosystem.

“The Infinity Campus reflects India’s spirit of innovation, youth power, and entrepreneurship. The risk-taking ability and creativity of our young generation are reaching new heights,” the PM said, noting that India’s private space talent is gaining global recognition and attracting international investment.

Tracing the journey of India’s space programme, PM Modi recalled the early days when rocket components were transported on bicycles, evolving today into a “trusted launch vehicle” capable of supporting a wide range of applications, including communication, weather prediction, urban planning, and national security.

“Historic reforms, a new space policy, and collaboration between startups and industry have strengthened our space sector. We plan to open other strategic sectors, like nuclear, to private players as well,” he added.

Skyroot’s Infinity Campus, spanning around two lakh sq. ft., will serve as a hub for designing, developing, integrating, and testing multiple launch vehicles, with the capacity to build one orbital rocket per month. Founded by IIT alumni and former ISRO scientists Pawan Chandana and Bharath Dhaka, Skyroot became the first Indian private company to launch a sub-orbital rocket, Vikram-S, in November 2022.

The Prime Minister noted that the rise of private space enterprises demonstrates the success of the NDA government’s transformative reforms in recent years, reinforcing India’s position as a confident and capable global space power.
