Kashmir Temperature Plummets Again; Shopian Records Freezing Minus 6.4°C

Srinagar dips to -4.1°C as valley experiences freezing nights and dense fog; light snowfall expected in higher reaches by December 8.

Srinagar, Dec 6: Night temperatures in Kashmir fell sharply below the freezing point on Saturday, bringing back the biting cold after a brief respite earlier in the week. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 4.1°C, while Shopian was the coldest place in the region at minus 6.4°C, officials said.

On Thursday night, temperatures had risen above freezing, giving residents temporary relief. However, by Friday night, the mercury dropped across the valley, signalling the return of severe cold.

Qazigund: -4.2°C

Kupwara: -3.5°C

Kokernag: -0.2°C

Pahalgam: -4.4°C

Gulmarg: -2.6°C

Konibal (Pulwama): -5.2°C

Dense fog covered parts of the valley, adding to the wintry conditions. According to the meteorological department, the weather will remain generally cloudy but dry on December 6–7. A brief spell of light snowfall is expected at isolated higher-altitude locations in north and central Kashmir on December 8.
