Students protest at Cluster University Srinagar over academic confusion, demand clarity
Semester uncertainty sparks peaceful student protest at Cluster University
Srinagar, Dec 06: Academic unrest brewed at Cluster University Srinagar on Friday as a large group of students gathered inside the campus to protest what they described as rising uncertainty and confusion surrounding key academic decisions. The agitated students expressed deep frustration over recent changes pertaining to the first and fifth semesters, claiming that abrupt announcements and the absence of proper communication have severely disrupted their studies.
Students said that over the past several weeks, a series of sudden academic modifications were introduced without adequate notice or explanation from the university administration. These unanticipated changes, especially concerning examinations, coursework schedules, and semester timelines, have left students feeling anxious and directionless. Many said they were unsure how to prepare for upcoming exams or complete assignments due to conflicting and delayed notifications.
Assembling peacefully inside the campus lawns, the students raised slogans demanding clarity, fairness and a student-focused approach in university decision-making. They said that the administration must ensure that any academic alteration is communicated well in advance, and only after taking into account the concerns of the student community. Several protestors stressed that abrupt and unilateral decisions have deeply affected those enrolled in crucial semesters, particularly fifth-semester students whose academic performance would influence postgraduate admissions and future career plans.
Students said that the lack of definitive timelines and absence of official clarifications has amplified academic stress during an already demanding period. They warned that continued ambiguity regarding exam dates, syllabi and evaluation patterns could cause lasting academic setbacks if corrective measures are not taken immediately.
Calling for accountability and transparency, the protesting students urged the university authorities to issue clear, comprehensive and timely notifications to prevent misinformation and confusion. They also demanded that the administration establish an open communication channel where student representatives can raise grievances and receive prompt responses.
Despite the intensity of their concerns, the protest remained calm and orderly, with students consistently appealing for constructive engagement rather than confrontation. They said the university must recognize the seriousness of their predicament and initiate meaningful dialogue to resolve the issues without further delay.
