Severe Cold Wave Continues Across Jammu & Kashmir, Srinagar, Pahalgam, and Ladakh Record Freezing Nights
Srinagar, Dec 8: Jammu & Kashmir experienced another night of biting cold on Sunday as sub-zero temperatures gripped most parts of the Valley. Shopian emerged as the coldest spot, plunging to -4.2°C, marking one of the chilliest nights of the season.
Central and south Kashmir recorded sharp cold, with Srinagar city settling at -2.4°C and Srinagar Airport even colder at -3.2°C. Other areas, including Pampore (-2.0°C), Budgam (-3.1°C), and Ganderbal (-2.3°C), shivered under the frost.
South Kashmir remained in the grip of cold with Anantnag and Awantipora both at -1.4°C, Pulwama at -3.1°C, and Pahalgam at -0.4°C. Kokernag remained just above freezing at 0.1°C.
North Kashmir also witnessed a chill as Kupwara dropped to -1.2°C, Bandipora to -2.2°C, and Baramulla to -3.1°C. Tourist hotspot Sonamarg recorded -2.8°C.
Jammu region stayed relatively milder, though the mercury fell noticeably: Jammu city at 7.9°C, Katra 9.6°C, Banihal 4.5°C, Bhaderwah 2.6°C, and Udhampur 2.0°C.
Ladakh continued to face extreme cold, with Leh at -6.2°C, Kargil at -5.0°C, and Nubra Valley at -3.7°C, remaining under severe cold wave conditions.
Meteorologists warned that the cold wave is likely to persist over the coming days, with clear night skies expected to push temperatures even lower across the Valley.
