Peter Greene, ‘The Mask’ and ‘Pulp Fiction’ actor, dies at 60

Acclaimed character actor known for iconic villain roles found dead in New York; celebrated for intensity on screen and kindness off it.

Mumbai, Dec 14 : Hollywood actor Peter Greene, famous for his intense and dangerous roles in cult classics such as Pulp Fiction and The Mask, has passed away at the age of 60. Greene was found dead in his Lower East Side apartment in New York City on Friday, December 12, confirmed by his manager and longtime friend, Gregg Edwards. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Greene, widely recognised for portraying memorable villains, was described by friends as a gentle and generous person in real life. “Nobody played a bad guy better than Peter,” Edwards said. “But he also had a gentle side that most people never saw. He had a heart as big as gold.”

Greene’s acting career began with small television roles, including a 1990 appearance on NBC’s Hardball, and his film debut in Laws of Gravity (1992) alongside Edie Falco. He rose to fame in 1994 with his role as Dorian Tyrell in The Mask, starring opposite Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, and appeared the same year in Quentin Tarantino’s landmark film Pulp Fiction.

Over the years, Greene became a sought-after character actor, delivering powerful performances in Clean Shaven, The Usual Suspects, Blue Streak, and Training Day. His television credits include The Black Donnellys, Life on Mars, Chicago P.D., and more recently The Continental (2023) and Dope Thief (2025).

Even in his final years, Greene remained involved in meaningful projects, including co-producing and narrating a documentary, From the American People: The Withdrawal of USAID, which addresses the global impact of international aid cuts. He also had an upcoming film, Mascots, starring Mickey Rourke.

Peter Greene is survived by his sister and brother. Edwards encouraged fans to honor Greene’s memory by supporting the causes he cared about, reflecting the actor’s commitment to making a difference off-screen as well as on it.
