Shopian Police Detain Three OGWs Under PSA to Foil Terror Network

Shopian, Dec 27: In a strong preventive move to safeguard peace and security in south Kashmir, Shopian Police have detained three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) under the stringent provisions of the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their repeated involvement in activities detrimental to public order and security.

According to an official statement, the detained individuals have been identified as Owais Ahmad Lone of Sedow, Mashooq Ahmad Shah of Shahlatoo, and Subzar Ahmad Gani of Check Choland, all residents of Shopian district.

Police said the three OGWs were persistently involved in activities prejudicial to the security of the Union Territory. Despite earlier preventive measures and proceedings initiated against them under Sections 170 and 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), they continued to indulge in unlawful acts, posing a serious threat to peace and stability in the area.

Considering their continued involvement, detention orders were obtained from the District Magistrate, Shopian, after completing all legal formalities. The detenues were subsequently taken into custody and shifted to Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu.

Shopian Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the district and affirmed that firm action will continue to be taken against elements inimical to public order, strictly in accordance with the law.
